Under the initiatives of the Livelihood Development Program for the Elderly Persons, SSS observed International Day for Elderly Persons on 4 and 5 October respectively in Dainna Union Parishad and social center for elderly people in Hugra union of Tangail. In the ceremony, six elderly people got six wheel chairs, 10 received old-age accreditation and 10 people got Best Children award.
On 4 October (Monday), the activities of the celebration started with a colorful rally in Dainna union followed by a discussion meeting in Dainna Union Parishad. Md. Lavlu Miah Labu, Chairman of Dainna union spoke at the meeting as chief guest. Among others who took part in the discussions were: Mubarak Hossain, Assistant Director (Publication); Md. Jahangir Hossain Khan, Coordination (ENRICH, NEM and Elderly People’s Program); Md. Abdul Majid Miah, chairperson of union elderly people’s committee; freedon fighter Md. Mahir Uddin Mahi and so on.
At the end of the meeting, three elderly people got wheel chairs, five received Best Elders Accreditation (Tk. 1,000 each) and five people got Best Children reward (Tk. 1,000 each).
On 5 October (Tuesday), a rally and discussion meeting were arranged in the social center for elderly peorsons in Hugra union. Chairman of Hugra Union Parishad Md. Tofazzal Hossain Tofa was present there as chief guest whereas Md. Jahangir Hossain Khan, Coordinator (ENRICH, NEM and Elderly People’s Program), Md. Akkel Ali, chairman and geneal secretary of union elderly people’s committee spoke at the meeting.
After the discussion, three elderly people got wheel chairs, five received Best Elders Accreditation (Tk. 1,000 each) and five people got Best Children award (Tk. 1,000 each).
